What is the difference between benefits and features?
A lot of times people get these two words confused. When trying to get someone to buy a product or service, they automatically point out all of the features, but they leave out the benefits. Great advertisers always point out the benefits.
For example, if I am buying a new car, yes it is nice to know that it has a radio and air conditioning, but what I really want to know is how I am going to feel once I get behind the wheel of the car. Am I going to feel younger or safer or more snooty because I picked this particular car?
I heard the best phrase recently when it comes to benefits. It was “Benefits are emotional components that sell.” It is so true. People buy things for all kinds of reasons: happiness, sadness, depression, revenge, prestige, self worth, and the list goes on an on.
Sure if I am thirsty I am going to purchase a drink somewhere to quench my thirst, but where I go to make that purchase will depend on several factors. I love to crunch ice like I did when I was a little kid, so I want to go where they sell crunch ice. If I am close enough, I will hit up an AM/PM. If not, I may settle for some place else, but the experience will not be the same.
What benefits are you letting your clients and potential clients know about your products or services to make them buy from you?
